My head is aching in a greatest pain I ever had. Flashes of memories startled through my head. Glimpses of dark sky... frightening thunder… shocking lightning bolts flashed through the grey clouds… I suddenly realized where I was at that particular memory. I was in shore with dark sand and high waves that seemed like a great storm is about to crash the earth. I was in a place where hopes and dreams are being halted by the time… Suddenly, my eyes opened and saw unfamiliar things around me. I was disoriented by the place. I was lying in a single bed with a very warm blanket that enveloped around me. The place was simple with a round table beside the bed and a lamp glowing at the top of the table. The ceiling was made of indigenous materials and the walls were made of semi-concrete materials and bamboo. The floor was tiled of wooden tiles with floral designs. I urged to stand but my back was painful and my legs are trembling. It seemed like I lost all my force but I continued to stand to find out where in the earth am I. Unfortunately, my body was too weak for me to stand. I fell to the floor and made an unnecessary noise that may be heard by anyone. I managed to stand when I heard heavy footsteps coming to the room and few seconds apart, a man enters the room where I stayed.
“Anything wrong?” the man said. I’m not able to answer him I just stared at him instead. He was a decent-looking gentleman with black hear, astonishing height and fair complexion. He was wearing dark green shirt with black shorts. He looked nice.
“Ahmn… Did I scare you?” he interrupted.
“Ohh… No, I mean not really… I was just wondering if…” my voice was too low and I’m not sure if he is able to hear it.
“What? By the way, I’m Nate. I saw you at the shore yesterday and brought you here. You were unconscious so I helped you. Don’t worry I’m not a bad person.” He spoke gently.
“Ohh… Thanks… ahmn… I… I…” I tried to introduce myself but I couldn’t remember anything about me. I tried to scan my mind about myself but I failed. No memory flashed back to my head. I looked at him. He was waiting for my answer. I thought again and gave up.
“I don’t know who I am. I think I… lost my memories…” I told him.
He got shocked. I don’t know what he was thinking right now and I don’t intend to discover it.
“Ugh… I don’t know what to do now. You see I just thought you can be home after you have recovered but… you can’t even remember your name.” he said.
I got speechless. I don’t really know what to do.
“Ok let’s just set this up. Maybe I we can call you another name while you still can’t remember yours.” he said.
“Well, maybe that’s good for the meantime.” I agreed,
“Uhmn… Can I call you …’Caroline’?” he asked.
“Nice! That would be my temporary name, perhaps.” I said while I smiled. The name seemed to have a significant meaning to him though it was nice. I just can’t stop thinking and trying to remember my own real name. I sighed.
“Are you hungry? Or not feeling well?” Nate asked me.
I realized my tummy is growling and it’s time for me to eat something. ”I think I’m hungry.” I told him honestly.
“C’mon let’s go to the dining room. I have cooked food a while ago.” He said gently. He led the way to the kitchen while helping me walk. He knew that my legs are too weak for me to walk myself.
The dining room was neat and clean. The black round table where the foods lie is made of mahogany perhaps. Foods on the top of it seemed to be delicious. Fruits, hot soups, chicken salad and beef steaks were served and it was very elegant. Nate pulled one chair for me. I sat to it.
“Let us eat. I’m sure you’re hungry. You’ve been sleeping all day that you haven’t eaten any meal since I found you at the shore.” Nate told me.
Again, I still don’t know where I am and who I am. I lost my own self but I ignored it for a moment. I started scooping the soup and it was indeed a very yummy soup. Nate offered the beef steak and I didn’t refuse to accept it. It was delicious and realizing that he was the one who spend effort to cook it, it made me gratified.
“How do you feel now?” Nate asked.
“Better than a while ago.” I smiled.
“Good. After this you must take arrest so that your vitality will be back.” After saying it, he got up and left the table. “Just leave the dishes. Martha will wash those.” he said and went out of the dining room.
Is he in a terrible hurry? Where is he going? I got up and tried to follow him. I got curious of his exit. He seemed to be planning something very important and urgent. Suddenly, I heard him talking over the telephone without noticing my presence.
“So did you got any information about her? I mean is there any alerts for mis-- … ohh… I see. I need that… Yes that one… Okay thank you Garrett. I owe you a lot. Inform me about any improvement on your task.” He cut the conversation and sighed. I wonder what he is up to but I’m sure it’s very important for him.
“Where exactly am I now?” I asked him.
He looked at me. “You’re in Blossoms Island. I’m sure you’re not that familiar with it. This place isn’t shown in the map. This is a place where you can unwind and meditate a place of joy and pleasure. I can tour you in this island if you want.” he said with modishness in his voice.
“Really? I’d be thankful for that. I’d like to do that but for now I guess I couldn’t because my head aches every now and then.” I said.
“Ohh. That must be annoying. Maybe you should take some pain relievers. I’ve got some of it in my first aid kit. I’ll give some to you later.” He said.
“Ahmn… Is this your permanent residence? Or this is just your place for vacation?” I asked.
“Both. I get a lot of work in many places. I’m a professional photographer. My work takes me to different places but despite it, this is the place where I come home every time I want to.” He said.
“You take photos? Incredible! Can I see some of your photos taken?” I asked.
He handed me an album covered with a black cover. I started opening it. The first photo that I saw was a field of yellow flowers that covers the whole meadow. Behind it was a purple-headed mountain that looks cooler in the photo. I scanned the next pages. It showed me a white fat cat with its green eyes. The fur seemed so smooth and well-taken care of its owner. As I continued, another fascinating photo amazed me, a face of a sleeping girl with wavy eyelashes, perfect nose and red lips. Her skin was smooth and her hair was as black as the night sky. The photo was in black-and-white color.
“Who is this?” I asked referring to the girl in the photo.
He didn’t answer me. His mouth was kept shut and I think he’s not planning to answer me. I tried to ask again but he didn’t bother to answer. There was something mysterious on the photo. I was so curious but he was so silent and that made me think that the girl on the photo had some kind of connection to Nate. I looked at him; his face was blank and seems to have no emotion at all. I continued to scan his photographs, paying no attention to any of the photos and still thinking of the girl in the photo. Who is she in Nate’s life? Nate seemed to hide something behind himself and I want to find out what is it.
